GPS for real-time tracking of enterprise vehicle fleet
Implementation Project: GPS Tracking with Sinotrack ST901 and Traccar on AWS
Overview
This project involved the implementation of a GPS tracking system in a company by installing Sinotrack ST901 devices in vehicles and integrating them with a Traccar server hosted on AWS. The goal was to provide an efficient real-time tracking solution to monitor fleet location, optimize resource management, and enhance security.
Implementation
-
GPS Device Installation
- • The Sinotrack ST901 devices were installed and configured in the company's vehicles.
- • Proper power supply and mobile network connectivity were verified to ensure data transmission.
-
AWS Server Deployment
- • An AWS EC2 instance was set up to host Traccar, an open-source GPS tracking software.
- • An Route 53 record to ensure users can reach that instance from a custom domain name.
- • The server was configured to receive GPS data and store it in a MySQL database.
- • AWS Security Groups were adjusted to allow secure communication between GPS devices and the server.
-
Integration and Configuration
- • The Sinotrack ST901 devices were configured to send data to the AWS-hosted server using the appropriate port and protocol.
- • Traccar was optimized to display real-time location data through its web interface and API.
- • Alerts and reports were set up to notify specific events, such as prolonged stops or inusual movements.
Results & Benefits
- • Real-time monitoring of the fleet, enabling better route planning and control.
- • Enhanced security by tracking the exact location of vehicles and receiving alerts for unexpected events.
- • Resource optimization, reducing operational costs by improving vehicle usage management.
- • Scalability and flexibility, allowing for future system expansions.
